brilliant - Interstingly this was never turned into a film. Engagingly dense, ambiguous, ironic. I m always impressed with just how much detail there is in these novels and how Le Carre manages to keep it all seeming pertinent (through tensions between character and context) especially when it invariably turns out to have been of tenuous significance to the closure of the plot. Masterful writing/blagging to be sure...
